Russia beats US in space game again! Launches film crew to make first movie in space

Space officials reported that the crew was feeling fine and all spacecraft systems were functioning normally.

Baikonur, October 05: Beating US and Hollywood in space game just like they did before in 1957 by sending Sputnik in orbit, now Russian space agency finally launched Russian crew of two cosmonauts, an actress, and a film director into space on Tuesday to make the world’s first movie in orbit.

Actor Yulia Peresild and director Klim Shipenko blasted off for the International Space Station in a Russian Soyuz spacecraft together with cosmonaut Anton Shkaplerov, a veteran of three space missions. Their Soyuz MS-19 lifted off as scheduled at 1:55 p.m. (0855 GMT) from the Russian space launch facility in Baikonur, Kazakhstan, and successfully reached the designated orbit. The Soyuz MS-19 spacecraft is set to dock at 1212 GMT at the station, which orbits Earth at an altitude of around 220 miles (354 km).

As part of the mission, the crew will spend 12 days during which the crew will shoot film scenes for a movie named “The Challenge”. The movie's plot revolves around a female surgeon (Yulia Pereslid) who is rushed to the space station to save a crew member who suffers a heart condition.
 
After 12 days on the space outpost, the film crew will return to Earth on Oct. 17 along with Oleg Novitsky, an astronaut who’s been on the station since April.
 
The 12-day Russian mission follows the launch of the first all-civilian crew aboard a rocket and capsule developed by SpaceX, which was founded by businessman Elon Musk.It is designed to get in first before a Hollywood project featuring actor Tom Cruise working with NASA and SpaceX.
