In a major breakthrough in the history of medical science and in the treatment of the dreaded disease of cancer, more than a dozen rectal cancer patients in the United States have seen their cancer disappear after undergoing experimental trials of drugs. With that success, a ray of hope has been raised that the world may soon be able to get rid of a dreaded disease.

Cancer

According to the study published in the New England Journal of Medicine, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center conducted a small trial on 12 rectal cancer patients. Their cancer was locally advanced but had not spread to other organs. For the unreserved, colorectal cancer, which is also known as colon cancer, bowel cancer, or rectal cancer, is the development of cancer of the colon or rectum. The signs and symptoms of rectal cancer may include blood in the stool, weight loss, change in bowel movements, and fatigue.

During the trials the patients took the drug dostarlimab for every three weeks for six months. . After the set period, scans of the participants came back completely clear and there was no identifiable cancer. Cancer vanished in every single patient, undetectable by physical exam, endoscopy, PET scans, or MRI scans.

Dr. Luis A. Diaz J. of New York's Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center said this was "the first time this has happened in the history of cancer".According to experts, Dostarlimab is a drug with laboratory-produced molecules and it acts as substitute antibodies in the human body.

The successful cancer drug trial has also turned significant as the patients who were involved in it did not suffer any significant complications. Cancer patients usually go through difficult treatments, including surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. In the case of rectal cancer, some of the patients even need colostomy bags. Patients sometimes also get permanent complications like bowel, urinary and erectile dysfunction. However, the latest trial appears to be a blessing for all those who are seeking treatments.

The findings of this trial have shocked experts and they have pointed out that complete remission in every single patient is "unheard-of".
