Moreover, it will also remove all legacy verified checkmarks from the accounts so all those accounts who are having the blue tick under legacy verified will lose them. “Starting April 1, we’ll be winding down our legacy Verification program and accounts that were verified under the previous criteria (active, notable, and authentic) will not retain a blue checkmark unless they are subscribed to Twitter Blue,” Twitter wrote.

Twitter introduced the verified accounts feature in 2009 to help users identify the genuine accounts of celebrities, politicians, companies and brands, news organisations and other accounts "of public interest". However, it should be reminded that Elon Musk earlier hinted in a tweet that Twitterwould remove all legacy blue ticks globally from the platform

"Far too many corrupt legacy Blue ‘verification’ checkmarks exist, so no choice but to remove legacy Blue in coming months", he had tweeted in November.

After the developmnet, it will allow only paid subscribers and members of approved organisations to have the respective status. Right now, Twitter accounts are now verified with three colours – Gold check for companies, grey check for the government, and blue for individuals (celebrity or not). All verified accounts will be manually authenticated before the check activates.

Now, Twitter users have to purchase the verified blue checkmark by taking a subscription to Twitter Blue, which is now available worldwide.

How much Twitter Blue will cost in India?

In India, the cost of a blue tick is Rs 650 for the web and Rs 900 for Android/iOS.
However, only accounts actively subscribed to Twitter Blue are eligible to receive the blue checkmark. Twitter will no longer be accepting applications for the blue Verification checkmarks under the previous criteria (active, notable, and authentic).
