Mukesh Ambani unveils 'Most affordable' 4G smartphone

Mumbai, June 24:  Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director, Reliance Industries Limited, has unveiled the "most affordable" Android smartphone 'JioPhone Next' at 44th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday. The "most affordable" phone Jio has developed in association with Google.
Launching the phone at the AGM, Ambani said, " I am pleased to announce that Google and Jio teams have jointly developed a truly breakthrough smartphone – JioPhone Next. It is a fully-featured smartphone supporting the entire suite of applications from both Google and Jio.”

He further added, "This is a testimony to a global technology giant, and a national technology champion, working together to make truly a breakthrough product that can be first introduced in India and then taken to the rest of the world."
According to the announcement,  JioPhone Next runs an extremely optimized version of the Android operating system that supports all Jio apps, Google apps, including the Google Play Store. The operating system also brings features like voice assistant, automatic read-aloud of screen text, and language translation.
"JioPhone Next is powered by an extremely optimised version of the Android operating system that has been jointly developed by Jio and Google, especially for the Indian market," said Mukesh Ambani at the virtual AGM.
Ambani further has informed that the phone will be available from September 10 (Ganesh Chaturthi), 2021. However, jio has not yet announced the price of the new smartphone.
Meanwhile, Google CEO Sundar Pichai also said that “At a time when so many aspects of our lives and work are moving online, it’s even more important to make technology accessible and helpful for everyone. This goal is at the heart of our partnership with Reliance Jio...Our vision was to bring affordable access to information for Indians in their language, to build new products and services for India’s unique needs, and empower businesses with technology.”
