5G telecom services to be rolled out in August: Govt

New Delhi, June 23: Putting a full stop on speculation around when will 5G telecom services start in India, Union Minister of State for Telecommunications Devusinh Chauhan informed that 5G telecom services will be rolled out in India in August.

He made announcement after reviewing 5G spectrum auction process with the Telecom department officials on Wednesday.
 
"Reviewed the 5G spectrum auction process with the officers. Under the strong leadership of PM Narendra Modi every milestone has been achieved so far and happy to share 5G Telecom services will be rolled out in the month of August," Chauhan said in a tweet.
 
 
 
The PM Modi led Union Cabinet on 15 June had approved the 5G spectrum auction through which airwaves will be assigned to the successful bidders for providing 5G services to public and enterprises. As much as 72 GHz of spectrum with a validity period of 20 years will be put on the block during the auction, which is set to commence on 26 July.
 
The auction will be held for spectrum in various Low (600 MHz, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz), Mid (3300 MHz) and High (26 GHz) frequency bands.
 
It is expected that the Mid and High band spectrum will be utilised by Telecom Service Providers to roll-out of 5G technology-based services capable of providing speed and capacities which would be about 10 times higher than what is possible through the current 4G services.
