The handover comes just days after Isro successfully tested the Low Altitude Escape Motor that will power the Crew Escape System. It will eject the Gaganyaan crew module with astronauts in case of an eventuality. The Low Altitude Escape Motor was test-fired at Sriharikota, which is equipped with four reverse flow nozzles and generates a maximum sea level thrust of 842 kN (nominal) with a burn time of 5.98 seconds (nominal).

This is not the first time that HAL has handed over equipment to Isro for the country's maiden astronaut mission. In April, the Bengaluru-based organisation delivered hardware for the mission.

HAL has been working with Isro in the development of its big launcher, the PSLV, and the GSLV. The aerospace unit in 2021 delivered the heaviest semi-cryogenic propellant tank (SC120- LOX) ever fabricated to be used in the Mk-III launch vehicle for future missions.
