World's highest battlefield gets Internet! Army activates satellite-based internet service on Siachen Glacier at 19,061 ft

New Delhi, September 19: In a major development, the world's highest battlefield, Siachen Glacier, at 19,061 feet, gets satellite-based internet service. As per the information given by the Indian Army's Fire and Fury Corps, Siachen Signallers activated satellite-based internet service on the Siachen Glacier.

Located in the eastern Karakoram range in the Himalayas, the Siachen Glacier, at a height of around 20,000 feet is known as the highest militarised zone in the world where the soldiers have to battle extreme weather.
 
Sharing pictures of the installation process on Twitter, the Indian Army’s wing said, "'Always Through’ Satellite-based internet service activated on the #SiachenGlacier at 19,061 feet, the World's Highest Battlefield, by the Siachen Signallers."
 
 
 
Army, in collaboration with Bharat Broadband Network Limited (BBNL), a wholly government-owned broadband infrastructure provider company worked towards providing internet services to the troops stationed in Siachen at a height of 19,061 feet.
 
This development will help increase the efficiency of communication and subsequent operations along the treacherous terrain and enemy border.
