Mumbai, April 18 : Apple’s first retail store in India officially opened in Mumbai on Tuesday. Tim Cook, Apple CEO along with Deirdre O’Brien, senior vice-president of Retail attended the Mumbai store’s opening.

The store is located in the Jio World Drive Mall at Bandra Kurla Complex. In-store, Apple has on display all of its products which includes the latest iPhone, Mac, iPad, AirPods, Apple Watch, and Apple TV lineups. These are accompanied by a host of accessories. Also available at the Apple Store is the Apple Pickup facility, which lets customers pick up products purchased online at the store itself.

Why it is making headlines?

 
The store is a major step by Apple to increase its offline presence in the Indian market and take on its closest rival Samsung.
 
The tech giant claims that Apple BKC is designed to be one of the most energy-efficient Apple Store locations in the world. With a dedicated solar array and no reliance on fossil fuels for store operations, Apple claims its BKC location is one of the most energy-efficient Apple Store locations in the world. The store uses only renewable energy, making its operations carbon neutral.
 
 
 
Spanning two floors, the store’s ceilings feature triangular, handcrafted timber tiles that extend beyond the glass facade to the underside of the exterior canopy. Each of these tiles are made from 408 pieces of timber, forming 31 modules per tile with a total of 1,000 tiles that make up the ceiling.
 
Customers from all around the world are welcome at the Apple BKC shop, where staff members will educate visitors on Apple products, suggest the best solutions based on their needs, and promote the Apple Trade-In programme.The store has a combined staff of 100 people, speaking 20 different languages.
 
It should be noted that, amid the local manufacturing push and an upcoming widespread retail store strategy, Apple shipped $7.5 billion worth iPhones and iPads in India in FY22-23.In FY23, Apple shipped more than 7 million iPhones and half a million iPads in the country, registering a 28 per cent growth for iPhone shipments.
