Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), a US chipmaker, announced on Friday that it will invest $400 million over the next five years to create its largest design center in Bengaluru. AMD's Chief Technology Officer, Mark Papermaster, verified the news during the annual semiconductor conference, which began on July 28 in Gujarat.
AMD stated that the design center in Bengaluru will open by the end of the year and that it would create 3,000 new engineering jobs within five years. "Our India teams will continue to play a pivotal role in delivering the high-performance and adaptive solutions that support AMD customers worldwide," Papermaster stated.
The new 500,000-square-foot complex will be AMD's latest extension to its presence in India. It will bring the company's total number of offices in the nation to ten. AMD already employs around 6,500 people in India.
Papermaster also stated that AMD will expand its research and development capabilities in the nation. The company's chips may be found in anything from home PCs to data centers. It's also developing an artificial intelligence chip.
Other speakers were Foxconn Chairman Young Liu, Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra, and Vedanta's Anil Agarwal. Micron has previously announced a $825 million investment in Gujarat for a semiconductor testing and packaging operation.
The 'SemiconIndia 2023' event, organized by the India Semiconductor Mission in collaboration with industry and industry organisations, intends to establish India as a worldwide centre for semiconductor design, manufacture, and technology development.
